Culturally Rooted Staff Wellness & Healing
La Plaza’s Culturally Rooted Staff Wellness & Healing training offers community-based organizations, public agencies, and philanthropy an opportunity to learn from La Plaza's experience cultivating staff wellness as a foundational — not peripheral — component of organizational health and community impact.
Designed for leaders and teams serving immigrant, Latine, BIPOC, and other historically marginalized communities, this learning experience explores how organizational culture, relational leadership, and intentional cultural practices come together to sustain staff who often carry their own lived experiences of systemic inequity, intergenerational trauma, and the heightened pressures of today's socio-political landscape.
Drawing on findings from La Plaza's participatory evaluation, sessions examine the conditions that enable authentic staff wellbeing — trust-based relationships, shared meals and rituals, language and cultural familiarity, psychological safety, and leadership that models care, dignity, and rest — and equip participants with adaptable principles and practices, organized by feasibility and cost, to embed wellness as everyday culture rather than an add-on. Core takeaways include a deeper understanding of how internal team wellness directly shapes community engagement, frameworks for distinguishing transferable principles from context-specific practices, and tools to co-create wellness with staff rather than impose it from
